Interview: Project Coordinator Jonne

Who are you?
I’m Jonne Wiessner, 22 years old and I’m currently studying the master Business Information Management at the Rotterdam School of Management.

What is your function and what does it entail?
I’m the Project Coordinator of the MAEUR Board. This entails that I’m responsible for most of the committees and projects of the association. I’m also responsible for the recruitment and selection of the active members and the year planning. In a sense, I’m the link between the committees and the board. It’s my job to guide the committees during the process of organizing an event. I have direct contact with the chairmen and women of the committees and meet with them regularly to discuss their progress.

What made you choose to apply for the MAEUR Board?
Before the board, I’d already done two committees at the MAEUR: the Bachelor Consultancy Project and the International Research Project Committee. This was a great experience and I got to know the association very well. I chose to do a board year because I think the MAEUR is a very open, friendly and inspiring environment where I could develop myself with like-minded students. After the two committees, I was looking for a challenge besides my Master, and a board year fits perfectly to my goals and ambitions!

Describe a day in the life of a Project Coordinator
My days are pretty versatile. As I live in The Hague I start my day in the train where I try to already check my e-mail: a good way to save a bit of work! Most of the time I start my day at the office with a cup of coffee and my emails. Next to that, I have a lot of meetings with the chairs of the committees where I discuss the process of their events or projects. Twice a week we have a board meeting where my job is to inform the board about the committees. Apart from that, I have lectures and assignments for my master, sports and a side job so good time management is key! At the events, I’m responsible for the day itself so I have to keep a close eye on the day planning together with the day coordinators of the committees. Currently, we are recruiting for the Marketing Conference Committee and I have to prepare the interviews and the planning for the new committee!

What did you learn from this experience?
Most of all I developed my management skills and the ability to work with different kinds of people. It is a great feeling when events are a success and your committees are doing a great job. I also learned to react properly to unsuspected circumstances and think in solutions instead of problems.

What did you enjoy most about this board this year?
I enjoy the hours at the office with a lot of laughs and joy with my fellow board members. But also the events we already organized and the process of recruiting the actives members that have become a real family throughout the year. 

What is your next destination?
I will finish my Master in December and I want to start an internship in August to finish my thesis. After that, I will start working. Another challenge to look forward too!
