Interview: Charina Snoek
Can you tell something about yourself?
I am a 20 year old IBA student with a strong interest in marketing. Last year, I decided to apply for a committee within MAEUR, which was a great decision since I learned a lot and I met lovely people.
What was your position in the Study Trip Committee and what did this entail?
My position in the Study Trip Committee was Program Coordinator. Just as my fellow Program Coordinator, I was the lucky one who had to think of fun potential activities in Budapest, the city we went to last year. Besides this, we had to arrange an university visit and other educational activities. Finding a good accommodation and flight also belonged to our tasks. To make a long story short, we had to create an amazing program and make sure it was executed well.
How did you decide that you wanted to join the Study Trip Committee?
When I first heard about MAEUR, I was enthusiastic, so I sought information about all committees. Although there were many interesting committees, the Study Trip Committee appeared to suit me best. I was looking for a committee which organizes an educational, but most of all a fun event. Next to that, I love travelling.
What did you learn from this experience?
In addition to strengthening my organizational skills, I gained experience in doing acquisition and I learned more about marketing in general.
What was the biggest challenge you faced?
My biggest challenge probably was helping out the External Relations Coordinators. Although this was not my initial task, it is important to support each other. Doing acquisition takes loads of time and therefore we all needed to call companies. I had no experience with this at all, so I did not exactly know how to start. Luckily, I got many tips from other committee members..
What did you enjoy the most?
The trip itself! Organizing it was fun but seeing people enjoy the program was even more fun.
What tips do you have for someone considering applying for the Study Trip Committee?
Most importantly, demonstrate your ambition for organizing a Study Trip and tell about your (creative) ideas. Do not only consider what you would like to do during a city trip but take into account what potential participants wish to do.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Just apply, you will not regret it!
